Pattani and Singora today are a part of Thailand but in their heyday they were important ethnic Malay polities.  Indeed at one point Pattani was so powerful that it was able to claim suzerain status over much of the Northeastern Peninsula.  Ultimately though pressure from Aceh, Johor and Ayuthaya led to Pattani's defeat and absorption into the modern Thai state.

The keris of Pattani and Singora are the most distinctive of the Peninsular kerises and retain much of their Hindu-Buddhist and Majapahit influences.
